Chandragiri Fort ascended to paramount importance during the twilight of the Vijayanagara Empire, serving as its fourth and final capital after the devastating fall of Penukonda. Following the Battle of Talikota in 1565 CE, the imperial seat shifted progressively southward, finding a crucial sanctuary here.
